Woke Up: Mott Basin   Went to Sleep: West Boat Basin, Astoria, OR

Time is so variable, it seems. As we all know, sometimes time passes quickly and sometimes time passes slowly.  In 2014, I waited eight months for the day we could quit our jobs and leave Portland. Although it seemed like August would never arrive, the time passed super quick. Suddenly, time has slowed to a snail’s pace. We’ve been on our journey down the Columbia River for only five days and yet it seems like a very, very, very long time.

With nothing to do, it’s suprising how tired we are at the end of the day.  Life on the boat is considerably more physical than life in the cubicle. Yesterday we motored/sailed about 50 miles.  By the time we were secure on our anchor in Mott Basin I was delighted to be “home”.  How does that work?  I didn’t leave the boat all day.

Our Saturday Cup Dilemna

For a wedding present, we were given a set of two matching ceramic coffee cups.  They are a little larger and more robust than a typical coffee cup and their cheerful yellow sunflowers made us smile.  We decided to use them for our coffee, exclusively, and only on Saturday mornings.  We dubbed them our “Saturday Cups” and from that day forward we always used our Saturday Cups on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.  After 20+ years, each of the handles has been broken off and glued back on numerous times.  Both cups have a single hair line crack and sometimes, depending on the temperature, coffee can drip a little.

Last year on our 20th anniversary we took our Saturday Cups to San Diego with the intention of ceremoniously throwing them away.  Somehow they came back with us.

Now, every day is Saturday.  Should we use our Saturday cups every day with broken handles and hair line cracks or should we put them out of their misery once and for all and throw them in the ocean on the way to Mexico?
