Let’s Make a Deal

Both Peter and I have spent a good deal of the time we have been underway (six months)feeling guilty for leaving aging parents, feeling homesick for friends, family, jobs, Portland, our bikes, etc. etc. etc.   Some days he loves what we are doing and I am homesick.  Some days I love what we are doing and he is homesick.  Some days we both love what we are doing and some days we both feel homesick.

We had a long talk today and made a deal with each other.  We are going to STOP IT!!

We certainly realize how fortunate we are to have this opportunity to travel, to see Mexico, to meet new people, to not have to work, etc . . . so, why are we not fully embracing this awesome experience?  Who knows.  Human nature?  The grass is always greener?

Today we are turning a corner.  We have made a commitment to each other to STOP pining over our lost lives and commit to relish our new lives.  We are so grateful for this time.

It would be oh so easy to loose what we worked so hard to create.  If something were to happen to Penelope or if one of us got hurt or became ill we would have to go home and get jobs.  Then, the dream would end and we would be heartsick for the beauty and tranquility we are living here today in Mexico.

So, I say to each of you, “Savor Today!”  It could be lost forever as quick as the blink of an eye.
