Woke up: La Cruz, Mexico
Went to sleep: La Cruz, Mexico
This afternoon we were getting things ready to take the bus to Paradise Village to visit Steve and Janny. The plan was to hang by the pool, have dinner, and come home with their little dog, Gracie.
Steve and Janny are going to San Diego for a couple of weeks and asked if we could dog sit. As you know, we enjoy Gracie so naturally we said, “Sure”.
As Janny and I were e-mailing back and forth, confirming our plans for the day, I happened to e-mail my friends, Robin and Lynda, who will be visiting next week and quite by accident happened to mention we were on our way out the door and would be coming home with Gracie.
“Oh, No! Susan, I am terribly allergic to dogs!” Robin wrote back.
Oh, Dear! I was mortified. What had I done? Why didn’t I think to ask Robin and Lynda if they would mind the dog? What now? Steve and Janny are flying out tomorrow. Robin has spent close to $600 in airfare to come and stay with us for a week. She has been looking forward to a fun and relaxing week in Mexico, not a sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, pill popping discomfortable mess. How could I have not thought to ask before I agreed to take Gracie?
All the way there in the bus I couldn’t think of anything but what a stupid thing I had done. I couldn’t tell Peter. He already had reservations about having the dog. He would have been very upset, too.
As soon as we got to Steve and Janny’s I presented my dilemma. They were very understanding. “Don’t worry, Susan, we’ll come up with a solution.” Throughout the afternoon, the four of us laid by the pool and brainstormed our options.
1. Take Gracie on the plane;
2. Move Penelope to Paradise Village and park next to Living Free;
3. Move Living Free to La Cruz and park next to Penelope;
4. Try to find someone else to take Gracie.
By some amazing miracle, Janny was able to find an alternate caretaker for Gracie. All I can say is, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”
