August Update

Today I feel like writing. I haven’t written even a grocery list for weeks. I’m in a rut. A sweet and juicy rut.

I spend my days teaching yoga, line dancing, peddling My Boat around the bay, visiting with people on the dock, reading, taking long luxurious naps in the afternoon, and watching OPB. Peter reconnected our TV antenna. The only channel we get is public television. We again listen to the Jim Lehrer Hour each evening at 7:00 pm. Perfect.

I also have a big job managing Peter’s To Do List. Happily, he is getting close. Only a few projects left to complete while we are conveniently tied to the dock. He’s installing LED lights and DC operated fans in each of the staterooms. These improvements will certainly be appreciated when company comes.

Since Peter discovered the stand-up paddleboard (SUP), he has developed a new exercise obsession. Yesterday he paddled over 12 miles to Glorietta Bay and back. Nobody but Peter paddles 12 miles on a stand up paddle board.

We enjoy playing together on the water; me in My Boat and Peter on his SUP.

We are savoring our time at the beautiful Chula Vista Marina. Every evening, Peter enjoys the pool and the hot tub. He says he wants to get his money’s worth – although we aren’t paying to be here as I am teaching yoga in exchange for our moorage.

We’re simultaneously, gleefully anticipating our return to Mexico. Duolingo rates me as 26% fluent in Spanish. This year I’ll understand just over a quarter of what they say, up from 0% last year.

We were the 80th boat to sign up for the Baja Ha Ha. Now, there are close to 100. We received our 2015 burgee and it is joyfully adorning our mast.

Welcome to the 2015 Baja Ha Ha

Welcome to the 2015 Baja Ha Ha

It reminds me of my participation in Ride the Rockies when I lived in Colorado. That was a 500 mile bicycle tour. The Ha Ha is an 800 mile sail boat rally. I’m the same person I was 30 years ago. Aren’t we all?

I know we’ll run into people we met last year and no doubt make new friends, too. Already, there are four other couples here at the marina who will be cruising Mexico this season.  Plus, our friends, Dan and Tammy from Portland, should be arriving soon.

Someday we’ll be back in our home in Bend where I’ll probably work as a greeter at Walmart. But, for today, I cherish the life we’ve created now.

Susan so glad for an update. I have been thinking of you and Peter. Enjoy your sailing and take good care. Tell Peter that I’m still pale compared to him and I’ve tried to be outside more this summer. When I saw him at the plant in May for his visit we compared coloring LOL! Enjoy and keep safe.

  2. Lynn says:

We will keep an eye out for you guys. Missed you guys and looking forward to seeing you again. Fair winds and safe harbors.
